USS Intrepid

Four United States Navy ships have been named USS Intrepid, signifying a willingness to go into danger to achieve the goal.

• The first Intrepid was an armed ketch originally built by France, sold to Tripoli as Mastico, and captured by the US in 1803.

• The second Intrepid was an experimental steam torpedo ram commissioned 1874.

• The third Intrepid was a training and receiving ship launched in 1904.

• The fourth Intrepid (CV-11) was an aircraft carrier in World War II, later recovered the astronauts of Gemini 3, and as of 2004 is a museum ship.

At least four starships in the fictional Star Trek fictional universe have been named USS Intrepid.

• The first Intrepid was a Constitution class starship mentioned in Star Trek: The Original Series with an all-Vulcan crew.

• The second Intrepid was a Excelsior class starship mentioned in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

• The USS Intrepid (NCC-74600, ex-NX-74600) was the pathfinder of the Intrepid class starship. Circa stardate 47310.2, Commander Donald Kaplan was the chief engineer on the Intrepid and engaged in power conversion efficiency contests with Commander Geordi LaForge on the USS Enterprise. The Intrepid was part of Battle Group Omega sent to intercept the Reman warship Scimitar circa stardate 56844.9 in 2379.

• Another starship named Intrepid appeared in Star Trek: Enterprise commanded by a Captain Ramirez.
