The Typing of the Dead is Sega's zombie horror arcade shooting game House of the Dead II converted into a complete touch-typing trainer program. The in-game characters have their handguns replaced with keyboards; the player must type the words which appear before the zombies or other on-screen targets in order to destroy them before being mauled. As unorthodox an approach as it may be to teach typing, the program nonetheless has a minor cult following among certain social circles and some claim it to have been the only typing trainer which actually improved their skills. Some people, however, "play" it entirely for entertainment and/or novelty value, which the "game" possesses in abundance if the "player" has an appreciation for the humor of the concept of zombies and zombie hunters teaching typing.
Originally released on the Sega Dreamcast, The Typing of the Dead was later converted for use on PCs (though the characters in-game, somewhat comically, are still using Dreamcast keyboards), though the conversion was not of the highest quality and the PC version inherited several noticeable limitations from its console origin.
