Trollhättan is a Municipality in Västra Götaland County, in western Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 411.5 km². Of the total population of 52,891, 26,726 are male, and 26,165 are female. The population density of the community is 129 inhabitants per km².
The city has a hydropower station in the Göta river, which helped the city in its industrial revolution.
Trollhättan houses the main production sites for Saab Automobile and Volvo Aero. There is also a film production facility, known as Trollywood ; movies shot there include Fucking Åmål, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, and more.
The name "Trollhättan" comes from folkloristic tales. People believed that large trolls lived in the river Göta älv and that the islands in the river were the Trolls' hoods ("hättor").
The waterfall of Trollhättan has been theorized to be the Mimir's Well from the Norse mythology.
