The Main Event

The Main Event was an World Wrestling Federation event that took place on February 5 1988 in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was shown live on NBC.

Three wrestling matches took place that night. There were:

• Randy Savage defeated the WWF Intercontinental Champion, Honky Tonk Man via countout. The Intercontinental title did not change hands on this night.

• Andre the Giant defeated the WWF World Champion, Hulk Hogan. This win ended a four year title reign by Hogan.

• The WWF Tag Team Champions, Tito Santana & Rick Martel, defeated The Hart Foundation to retain the titles.

Four more “Main Events” took place over the next three years.

The Main Event II took place on February 3 1989 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

• Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage defeated Akeem & Big Boss Man.

• Ted DiBiase defeated Hercules.

The Main Event III took place on February 23 1990 in Detroit, Michigan.

• WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan defeated Randy Savage. World Boxing Champ James "Buster" Douglas was the special guest referee.

• WWF Intercontinental Champion Ultimate Warrior defeated Dino Bravo.

The Main Event IV took place on October 30 1990 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

• WWF World Champion Ultimate Warrior beat Ted DiBiase via disqualification.

• Nikolai Volkoff beat Sgt Slaughter via DQ.

• Mr. Perfect beat Big Boss Man via countout.

• Rick Martel beat Tito Santana via submission.

The Main Event V took place on January 28 1991 in Macon, Georgia.

• Hulk Hogan & Tugboat beat Earthquake & Dino Bravo when Hogan pinned Bravo.

• Jim Duggan beat WWF World Champion Sergeant Slaughter via disqualification.

• The Legion of Doom beat The Orient Express (Kato & Tanaka) when Hawk pinned Kato.

Only the first three “The Main Event” were shown live on NBC as they took place. The final two were shown on NBC at some later date.
