The Hart Foundation was a collective name used by various stables in the World Wrestling Federation.
The Hart/Neidhart Tag Team
A tag team comprised of Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart, originally heels managed by "The Mouth Of The South" Jimmy Hart but later faces without a manager. The "New Foundation," a face tag team of Jim Neidhart and Owen Hart, was meant to capitalize on the popularity of the Bret/Neidhart tag team.
The Bret Hart/Jim Neidhart team was wildly successful as a face team, owing largely to Bret's marketable image. In contrast to many tag teams of the day, consisting of two similar wrestlers paired together, the two wrestlers were sharply different. Neidhart's power-driven style complemented Bret's technical wrestling, and Bret was a convincing face in peril (an element of the tag team formula).
Jimmy Hart's Heel Stable
A heel stable consisting of the tag team plus referee-turned-wrestler Danny Davis, also managed by Jimmy Hart. They faced off against the British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid) and Tito Santana at Wrestlemania III, continuing the rivalry between the Hart Foundation tag team and the British Bulldogs.
The Pro-Canada Stable
A pro-Canadian stable consisting of Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Owen Hart, Brian Pillman and Davey Boy Smith. This incarnation was a heel stable in the United States, a face stable in Canada and generally received as a face stable abroad.
Many of the wrestlers involved in the various Hart Foundation groups came from Stu Hart's Calgary Stampede promotion and as such had a "behind-the-scenes" cohesiveness in the eyes of many smarks.
