"The Great Beyond" is a song by R.E.M.. It is not featured on an original studio album but it was used in the 1999 movie Man on the Moon and was released as a single in 2000. The single reached #3 in the UK singles chart.
The song is about comedian and actor Andy Kaufman; the subject of the film. According to lead singer Michael Stipe, it is "about attempting the impossible, which I think is what Andy Kaufman did with his entire career."
Man On The Moon took its title from the earlier R.E.M. song, "Man on the Moon", also about Andy Kaufman.
