Television South West

Television South West (TSW) was the ITV franchise holder for the South West England region from January 1982 until December 1992, broadcasting from the former Westward Television studios in Plymouth, Devon. Like their predecessor TSW rarely produced anything for the ITV Network. One programme networked was a series named Tube Mice which was a cartoon about mice who lived beneath the London Underground.

TSW were a fiercely regional company, i.e. they would declare themselves as a channel in their own right rather than being part of a network, meaning that ITV branding would rarely be seen in the region. TSW lost their franchise in 1991 because of 'unrealistic business plans' related to their bid, which was seen by the Independent Television Commission as being far too high. In January 1993, TSW was replaced by Westcountry Television, despite a short legal battle at the start of 1992 to retain their licence, rather than hand it over to Westcountry.
