Takanori Gomi is a Japanese fighter and a participant in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. His major claim to fame is being the former Shooto 155lb champion. He is a member of Kiguchi Dojo in Japan.
Biography
Childhood
Takanori Gomi was born in Kanagawa,Japan in 1977 as a 2nd son.
He started learning boxing at Sagamihara Yonekura gym as the same time as he started attending Kanagawa prefactural Aikawa higashi junior high school (神奈川県立愛川東中学校) in 1994. He was also in full activity as a pitcher of his baseball team at school.
Unfortunately, he failed to pass on to the next grade when he was 2nd form in 1996. Then he decided to dropout his school. This caused an argument between Takanori and his father, and he was forsaken by his father in this time.
As a professional shooter
He began to learn wrestling in 1996. He transfered to shooto official gym in 1997. Then he began to take part in Amateur competition of shooto.
He debut as a professional shooter in 1998. He won the title of professional shooto world welterweight champion in 2001.He was beaten by Joachim Hansen by decision in 2001, then he lost his title.
Entry to PRIDE
He was offered to fight in Pride, and made his Pride duebut on 2/15/04 against Jadson Costa.
In his last fight on 12/31/2004, he knocked out Jens Pulver .
