Real Pro Wrestling (also known as RPW) is a concept announced in March 2005 for a new league of professional wrestling in which the competition will not be totally staged ("worked") or scripted ("booked") as is traditional in professional wrestling promotions but will in fact consist of actual competition in the sport of wrestling in much the manner of amateur wrestling.
This sort of concept has been announced numerous times in the past only never to begin operation or to operate only for a brief time, at least as a "legit" promotion, before lapsing into the professional wrestling tradition of kayfabe. However, the promoters of this concept have announced that they have contracts for prime time broadcasts with both PAX TV and Fox Sports Net, which could make the operation viable.
Wrestling Style
The style of wrestling that is used in RPW is a combination of Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Because of this, wrestlers of both styles compete in the league.
Rules
The rules have been modified in RPW to make the action more intense. Some of the most noticiable changes are as follows:
- 2 3-minute periods instead of 3 periods totaling 7 minutes
- If a wrestler pushes his opponent out of the ring he gets a point.
