Nelonen is Finland's fourth TV channel. It serves most of Finland, bar Lapland (except on digital). It started out as Helsinki's local television channel PTV in 1989 on the HTV cable network, which name was changed first to PTV4 and then to Nelonen. It started on the 1st June 1997. Nelonen in Finnish means the glyph of the number four. The channel is mostly owned by the SanomaWSOY Oyj, which owns the Helsingin Sanomat and Ilta-Sanomat newspapers. Much of its programming is American(50%) and European imports (20%), with Finnish subtitles. Its main market is the 15-30 demographic. It owns the digital channel NelonenPlus .

Despite its English name of Channel Four Finland, it isn't owned by Channel 4 (UK). Its Swedish name is Fyran.
