Film and music

She debuted on the big screen in 1998, reprising Hayley Mills' role in The Walt Disney Company's remake of the 1961 movie The Parent Trap. Lohan, as Mills had, played twin sisters who conspire to reunite their estranged parents. The film, co-starring Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson, introduced Lohan to a wider audience.

Lohan's next feature film, a remake of the 1976 classic Freaky Friday, would come five years later in the Summer of 2003. Lohan played the lead roles in two 2004 films, Disney's Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Paramount's Mean Girls.

Lohan is currently pursuing a pop music career concurrent with her career in films, and performed her song 'Ultimate' in Freaky Friday. In mid 2004 Lohan signed a recording contract with Casablanca Records. Her album, Speak, was issued on December 7, 2004, and reached #4 on the Billboard charts. The first single off the album was "Rumors", followed by "Over".

In the media spotlight

According to news reports there is some animosity between Lohan and Hilary Duff because they both have dated singer Aaron Carter. At the Cheaper by the Dozen movie (in which Duff co-starred) premiere party, Duff and her mother allegedly tried to have Lohan thrown out (to no avail).

It has been rumored that Lohan has had breast implants, though she has denied this. Lohan's breasts were photographed in an accident involving paparazzis earlier in 2004.

Lohan's father

Lindsay Lohan's father, Michael, has had multiple problems with the law in 2003 and 2004. In July 2004 he was arrested for skipping out on a $3,800 hotel bill. This came after a very public arrest and subsequent assault charge after an altercation with his brother-in-law at a May 2004 family party. Michael Lohan is reportedly working out a plea bargain deal with prosecutors.

Separately, on October 1, 2004 Michael Lohan pleaded guilty to a charge of assault against a NYC sanitation worker which stemmed from a December 2003 incident. Michael was sentenced to anger management classes. [1]

Lindsay Lohan's management has publicly suggested that she distance herself from him because of his legal problems.

In February of 2005, Michael Lohan was charged with driving while intoxicated when he ran a friend's car into a telephone pole, causing an electrical outage for over 1700 people on Long Island. He was also charged with "aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle", since he was driving while his driver's license was suspended.

During an appearance before family court, Michael Lohan brought with him a camera crew for a reality show he is filming, Living With the Lohans, and confronted his estranged wife, Dina, on camera. Some suggest that he started the trouble and animosity with his wife's family to further capitalize on his daughter's fame, in order to recoup his debt.
