Great American Country

Great American Country, or GAC, is a Tennessee-based country music cable television network similar to Country Music Television (CMT). As MTV Networks is currently shifting CMT towards a "country culture" format, GAC is making inroads as the network that plays more videos than CMT. They have also picked up former staples of The Nashville Network (which MTV Networks reformatted as The National Network and later Spike TV), including Crook & Chase and telecasts of the Grand Ole Opry.

GAC was launched in 1996 by Englewood, Colorado-based Jones Media Networks . As of October 12, 2004, The E.W. Scripps Company , owners of Home & Garden Television and the Food Network, agreed to purchase GAC. Scripps finalized the deal on November 17 of the same year.
