Gals, take a look at this latest 10% discount by our sponsor, 1ChildrenBooks.com.

The owner of the site, Kim is very friendly and helpful - so don't hesitate to ask her for help. They've got pretty good stuff from Winnie the Pooh to Disney, Ladybird titles and more.

Comment #3342: When should kids start reading?

I've always wondered, when should my boy start "reading". He's so young - 1 years old, and doesnt seem to understand sentences that he reads (although he's picking up individual words).

Should I start now or wait a little?

It's never to earlier to start. You can use flash cards methods. Or get books with only a few words. Keep reading to him. One day, he will read the book to you on his own. Just don't give up. My elder one was able to recognise alots of words when he's younger. I used flash cards. I didn't keep up with the 'revision' and he seems to hv forgotten alot. So now have to start again. But now teaching 2 kids at a time.

If you need flash cards ideas, email me.

Happy teaching!

If you think it's a hassle to prepare flash cards, I recommed this set of VCDs, Your Baby Can Read, a set of 5 VCDs. Can get from Popular Bookstore or Kiddy Palace. Quite good. Works something like flash cards. Word appears first follows by prononucation, then action.
